Gear selector is totally messed up....

My gear selector is broken. When I shift from Park to Drive, it feels like something broke inside the selector unit. I noticed also that id I'm sitting at a light or something and I downshift or upshift the triptronic the car will suddenly turn off completely.

Does anyone know where I can find a diagram of the gear selector unit? I beleive something is shorting out.

Have you spilled anything down in the shift gate?

She tells me she "thinks" her friend spilled something in that area.

This is a common problem. It is likely that the computer that controls the shifter is fried. Do a search here....this has happened many times before.

Your dealership (or MB specialist) should be able to confirm a diagnosis.
