320 vs 430 Differentials
Hi there,
I was wondering if the differentials on the 320 and 430 are compatible - I realize they have different ratios but I was wondering if one could bolt a 320 diff into a 430.
Thanks,
JT

You can switch the 430 diff to that of the 320, however without also upgrading the EGS controller, the car will be virtually impossible to drive. The ESP and shiftpoints will malfunction with the power, and the car will virtually stay in limp mode.

Thanks for the reply - so the differential upgrades from companies like Renntech come with an upgraded EGS controller? Anyone here upgraded their 430's differential to a higher numeric one like the 320's? And what other changes were required?
ie going from a 430's 2.82:1 ratio to a 320's 3.07:1
Thanks
P.S. This is frequently done on bimmers (ie going from the stock ratio of 3.15 in my 325i to an M3's 3.38 to gain acceleration at the cost of higher fuel consumption and lower top speed)

I upgraded to a 3.07 differential using the MKB differential kit . It was awesome, however, after I installed the Kleemann Supercharger, I kept hitting the rev limiter too quickly. I highly recommend the 3.07 differential for non supercharged 430s and 55s. I am going back to a lower differential as I am looking to get even more power running through my car. My MKB differential kit will be available at a very reasonable price within the next 2 months.

I recommend the MKB differential for Mercedes. It comes with the EGS controller necessary in order to make everything function properly. We just put a 3.27 in a customer's CLK55 CAB, and it flys!

Thanks for the input Sleestack
Doh - that's what I was afraid of - I was hoping to get a used 320 diff from a wreck but unless there's some way I can get just the EGS controller then it's rather pointless. I assume using the 320's EGS controller wouldn't work either eh? Any idea if MKB would sell the EGS on its own?
