1999 CLK 320
P0173, P0170, and P0130 codes

I did replace the O2 (Bank 1 Sensor 1) but the car still has rough idle and shakes even more when I turn the AC on.
I did scan for code and I am getting P0173, P0170, and P0130 (pending). The scanner cannot clear the codes and it kept saying: Command sent 3 codes remain.
Before changing the O2 I did:
clean MAF (no go)
Replaced the MAF insert (no go)
Note: I bought the MAF insert from ebay which I think is generic one since it does not indicate the Bosch brand.
What do you guys think? Any Help?

02 CLK 430 Cab
Im pretty sure that P0170 and P0173 are fuel adaptaion codes for bank 1 and bank 2. If thats the case, you either have a large vacuum leak, or a bad MAF sensor.

Is there a vacuum diagram for this car that I can use? If I don’t find the vacuum leak I guess I will replace the MAF sensor again (this time with an original one)

Update:
I just changed the 2 motor mounts and the transmission mount. Rough idle is gone and the car does not shake anymore. P0173 and P0170 codes are still there.

Check for a vacuum leak at the PCV line coming off (on the 430 engine in my case) valve cover leading back to MAF sensor.

i dont see any vacuum leak.
430cruz, what is pcv line? i dont see any vacuum tube going to maf sensor.
btw, i did check the egr tube and that was clear.
i just want to rule out other (less expensive) things before ordering a new maf.
i may just change some of the older vacuum tubes coming out of egr valve. do you guys know where i could buy these tubes? local autopart shops maybe?

PCV = Positive Crankcase Ventilation

I'm not sure about the 320 motor, but on the 430 motor if you look just under the fuel injector harness (black plastic piece) running up the drivers side (assuming you drive a U.S. model) there will be a rubber vacuum line that starts at a metal port on the intake side of the drivers side valve cover. This line runs under the fuel injector rail and around the back of the intake manifold. I've seen several of these rubber lines rot and split at the metal port.

Vac leak

Just because you can't "see" a vac leak doesn't mean you don't have one. Spray carb cleaner on vac lines, if rpm goes up you have a leak.

no vacuum leak at PCV line. I sprayed carburetor cleaner on PCV line, all the tubes on egr valve and around it, and no change on rpm.
any other suggestion?

One more thing that may or may not be related to this problem.
When I start the car, I see that the fuel gauge is lower than when I stop the car few hours earlier. So it seems like there is fuel loss when the car is not on. Is that even possible where there is no smell of gas?

Are you parked on a level or a slight incline?
My driveway has a slight incline and if I park out there the same thing happens. Does not occur if parked in the garage.

Fuel gauge is not exact, hence different reading, unless you do have a fuel system leak, which would explain vac. leak. Need to get under car. Front of car covered by shroud(easy to remove). Before you start car open hood and to see if you can tell where gas smell is coming from. If from exhaust could be(remember could be), a injector is bleeding down. The fuel pump also has a shroud cover, could be (again remember,could be) rubber hoses that are on filter,fuel pumps.

I have the same issue

Until reading these posts. I checked for the vacuum leaks as described. The tube leading from the valve cover to the maf was not the culprit. The housing the tube goes into on the valve cover was loose!!! Tightened it down, started the car up and the CEL was gone!!

CHecked for vacuum leaks and the car runs fine.. Returning the one I bought on ebay.. You can tell the difference between the two if you look close enough

CEL or check engine light & code P0173

I had this same code & when Autozone put their diag computer on it showed this same error.

They don't have exact readouts for Benz, but it pointed towards air intake systems.

I THOUGHT WHAT THE HELL IT'S BEEN 40,000 SINCE I REPLACED THE AIR FILTER so I did for $22.00

Engine started and the CEL light WAS OFF and stayed off Hooray!!!

Sometimes it is the simplest thing
