Camshaft vs. Crankshaft position sensor

Are these parts the same. I've looked at a few online and they appear to be different. I've also read a few posts and based on the info I read, I think my crankshaft position sensor is bad. I'm having the starting issues!!! Intermittently, it will crank but not start. It also shut off on me last night. After letting it sit for a few mins it will start right up. Anyway. I'm just trying to find out if these two parts are the same and if not, how do I know which sensor is bad?

BTW: The car is a 2000 CLK 320.

THANKS!!!

The part you need is called the Crankshaft Position Sensor...do a search on the HOW-To's and there should be a pic of the sensor there. It is very easy to fix as well. This is a very popular part that goes bad and it will make your car shut off when it is hot and will not allow it to start until it cools off a little. Hope this helps

My CPS is starting to go too..

Well, I guess I need a new CPS also. I am having the same symptoms as several others. The turn over but doesn't start when it is hot but after about 10-15 minutes we're good to go. I checked a bunch of websites I found on the board of where to get the part (germanstar.net ,Benz bin ,alloemautoparts.com,autopartsauthority.com) and the price must have changed since the posts. Others said they were paying $50 and $60 for the part and I cann't find it for less than $120. I broke down and called my dealer and they have it for $114 (in stock - guess why, they probably replace them every day). I then had me transfer me to the service dept (from the part dept) and I told them that I plan on bringing my car in for inspection next week (which is true) and how much to change me for the CPS install. They told me it is easy to install and he would charge me $45 to install when I bring it in for the inspections. Do you think this is a fair price??
$114 for the part and $45 for the isntall = $159 total?

PS..there is no way my car should not pass inspection so I don't think they will be able to get me on that end. Just an fyi..
