CLK boot opening speed.

This may seem a trivial question, but should the boot on a CLK be regulated? When i pop my boot the things just springs up so fast that i swear one day its going to smash the window with its bottom corner Are these gas operated? Should they be that fast?

I think that the struts should provide a dampening force against the internal springs.

If your boot is rising too fast it's a strut problem...

I don't think the W208's use struts to support the trunk lid. I'm just used to it, people do go "whoa - i wish mine open up like that" then they show me how theirs just go 'pop' and they have to pull it up manually.

I guess the grass is always greener on the other side.

The rearmost part of your trunk springs are hooked into one of three holes as shown below. If you pull back the trunk liner on either side they're clearly visible.

Hooking the spring end in the hole that is most towards the front of the car will give you the least amount of trunk "pop." The hole closest to the rear will give the most.

As shown in the pics below, mine are set to the low-pop (lowphat) mode...

Have fun.

Mine wont most of the times pop up at all, rather just open and stay 3-4 inches open until i lift it up by hand. Then sometimes it does pop fully open.

Would it help if i adjust the springs in the pics above?

Adjusting the springs to the shortest setting would still make the trunk sling open. Any suggestions?

I tried disconnecting a spring, but only raises the lid inches.
