Starting issues.... I've seen this one before

Saw this problem here before somewhere. What did it end up being?

- Put key in.
- turn key.
- car makes a split second attempt to turn the starter, then stops. Not a low voltage type of stop, it simply cuts off the starter. Quits rotating it. Acts like you "bumped" the starter.
- pull key out and repeat a few times, then car rotates starter and starts.

I just had a tow to the dealer from it not starting, ended up getting a new key. This was about 2 months ago. Now this.......

That's on the bottom front, right? I have a small oil leak I found last weekend on the lower front of the motor... I betcha it's leaked onto it or blown back onto it.

AHHHHHHHH today I went out to crank it and after a click everything went dead. manually opened the trunk and found the ground cable loose.

I've never been happier to have a loose ground in my life! I knew it couldn't be major after all the work I have done lately..... most all of that system has been inspected and replaced recently with a tow to the dealer from a bad key issue 2 months ago.

Upon restarting though I have the infamous BAS/ABS light. I replaced the switch just months ago however and I don't think it is bad this quickly.

Is there a reset procedure I can follow?

that happens when you disconnect the battery. To reset it, turn the wheel all the way left then all the way right. Or, just drive it for awhile and it will usually reset on its own.

BING! left, right, fixed. Thank you.

I had COMPLETELY forgotten about the 398,000 step reset procedure to reset each item after a battery disconnect. Sometimes you get so comfortable after owning these things for a while you forget things you already knew.

I have every measurement and code memorized from the climate control diagnostics mode, can recite the reset procedure from start to finish, but had just completely let it slip my mind as I did not associate it with the BAS/ABS light. My mind was on that stupid brake switch I had to replace once already.

My mind is still a little wigged out from being stranded from a bad key and sweating bullets for three days to make sure it wasn't the EIS. Back to worry free now having found that loose cable. Never in my life have I been so overjoyed to find a loose ground.
