AMG = Aufrecht Melcher Großaspach. AMG was founded by former Mercedes engineers Hans-Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher in a town near Stuttgart called Großaspach.

He's right. I belive he meant "M" as in "M-Series" in BMW. It does stand for motorsport.
