anyone stagger their clk like this??

I'm playing with the idea of staggering a set of new AMG monoblock wheels as a 17" front and 18" rear set up. On paper it makes sense, but I'm wondering if anyone has their wheels staggered with +1" in the rear?

set up would be like this:

235/45 R 17 Fronts
265/35 R 18 Rears

Am I smoking crack or can this work??
thanks.

2000 CLK 430
I asked about this when I first came onto this forum and people around here told me that it could be an issue b/c the rotation of the tires might not all be the same and this could cause ur traction control to constantly act up since the computer will think your tires are slipping.

I think if you do the math and get tires on the 18's thick enough to match the tires on the 19's it should work.

The other response was that I would look like a american muscle car with my ace in the air.

Needless to say - I didn't do it.

2003 AMG SL55, 2002 AMG CLK55, 2002 AMG ML55, 2005 ML350, 1995 S320 LWB - totaled
I am running 245/ 18 front 275 /18 rear on factory Mono block IIs
on my CLK55 on Euro springs. Be very careful mixing and matching sizes.
You will have issues with the computer and traction control.

2002 CLK 55 AMG Coupé
Improviz did it with no problem on the traction control or other electronics. The key is keeping the OVERALL diameter close. So if you have 225/17/45 tires on the front axle, go double plus size on the rear with, say, 265/18/35s. IIRMC Imrpoviz put 275 bad boys out back. Pester him to re-post some pics!

Personally, I'm leaning towards 235/18/40 front and 275/19/30 rear.

The fabulous 209 CLK DTM has 255/19/35 front and 285/20/30 rear. That puts the rear wheel overall diameter more than an inch larger than the front. Anything over half an inch seem to be asking for trouble, so no doubt the boys at AMG adjusted the electronic software to make it work.

For those who say this would spoil the look of the CLK (think funny cars and wheelie bars) just check out the CLK DTM. IMHO the double staggered set-up would improve the look...especially for the 208 since its rear quarter panel is chunky big. It reminds me of a Mustang GT - so why not go musclecar? Besides, new Corvettes, Vipers and some Ferraris all have the bigger rear rim.

thanks for the replies guys...

I spoke with my rep at TireRack and he did the measurements and the diameters of the 2 AMG monoblock wheels would be almost a perfect rolling diameter of 25" front & back.

The set up would be as follows:
225/45/17 Front on 17x7.5" wheels
255/35/18 Rear on 18x9" wheels
Both wheels would be the Aero II style (which is discontinued in all sizes but 18)

If anyone disagrees with this set up let me know... otherwise I'm going to order the tires for them soon and get this done for my clk430 cab.
