DIY Antenna Amplifier Replacement
Does your AM reception suck? Mine did and I got tired of not being able to hear the Mariners lose and check out the traffic when I wanted to. The solution was to replace the antenna amplifier. Here is the DIY to git 'er dun:

Wish I had this info a long time ago. I've been looking for others with bad AM, but no one seemed to speak up about it. Now that I'm getting rid of the car I find this out. Thanks anyway, and I know how you've felt.

Hey Saint - yeah, I finally found a guy at my dealer who was very familiar with this and said he was 100% convinced it was the issue with the reception. He said it's another very common issue on the W208s and W210s. FYI for anyone picking this up, it runs about $180. Even though I have a Euro COMAND, I now get perfect AM reception. 
Now I just need the Mariners to make it worth listening to them.

bs00clk I followed your instrcutions. However, when I removed my C pillar (2001 CLK 55 AMG with command unit) the amplifier was not there. All the wires are there and nothing else. Do you think because I have the navigation system the moved it up under the headliner? Is it possible my GPS antenna is now my radio antenna?
Now that I think about it the coaxial connection shown in your last pic is not even there.
I'm wondering if I even have an amplifier and that's why my reception sucks.
