Radio Volume Level

Okay is it me or just my imagination? Everytime I hit high speed and the engine gets louder, wind noise increase and the volume of my radio slowly increased to where it adjust it self to normal decibal. Have you guys ever notice it? You can try it by turning up the volume to half way and listen carefully when you increase in speed or come to a breaking slowly to a stop position.

If there is, where is the controller? I have the same mechanism in my Ford Expedition. But I can't find the controller in the 430.

Your MB has the "Bose Audio Pilot" which is a digital processing that helps compensate for ambient noise.

There's no controller. The headunit (whether you have Bose or not) receives the speed pulse directly from the car. It then adjusts the volume accordingly. Some models, such as those made by Becker, have 7 levels of adjustment.

Initially MB had this set too high. If you have the radio at a very loud volume at a stop, when you get to speed it will be distorted. After a certain model year (I am not sure which) they decreased the speed sensitive volume so that it did not get as loud. Your dealer can defeat it for you. I asked mine to turn it off and they said sure. But I think they just adjusted it to the new setting because now it works fine and before it drove me crazy. Mine is a 99 CLK 320. My speed sensitive volume worked exactly like my mothers 95 SL320, which also bugged the hell out of me. Your car must be new enough that it is not set too high because mine is barely noticable any more but still there just a little bit.

.............thev speed sensitive volume control can be easily turned on or off via the star diagnosis program. This is how I turned mine off. This is not difficult to do and can be done by any Mb dealer.
