Oil all over driveway
I ran a couple errands yesterday stopping home between them. To my horror, I saw lines of oil drops everywhere I moved the car. I just got my 2002 430 three weeks ago so I assume the worst. It was real visible because I sealed the driveway two weeks ago. Oil level is okay so I repeated the same drives and nothing.
I jack the car up and it's like a dust bowl under there. No oil anywhere, not in the body pan, nothing. I see one drop of oil on the bottom of the steering damper. I had my daughter turn the wheel from lock to lock and just before it gets all the way left, a stream of oil shoots out of the damper onto the garage floor.
I've owned Mercedes before and a massive oil leak never ends this good. A cheap part, easy to replace, non critical so I can get to it when I can and it'll improve the car when I do? That never happens.
If you see oil, don't panic, check the damper first.
