Voice activated Phone system
My dad just got a clk55 about a month ago and since then has been at the dealer about 2 weeks as they are trying to figure out a problem we have been having with the speaker phone system. As the car accelerates the person with whom you are having the conversation with hears a high pitched almost siren like sound. The dealer has tried many different things to try to fix it and now they called MBNA to have a technician come out because they can't find the problem. Anyway to my question. Has anyone experienced anything like this and if so have you been able to fix it? thanks for any response.

Hi, yep, I've got that problem and have had it for a year. My voice system was installed by the dealer when I bought the car. From the way the pitch changes with RPMs, it's obviously picking up some noise from the engine's electrical system. Coincidentally, I'm going in for Service A next week, so MB be addressing the problem then. I was hoping it would be an easy fix, such as a bad ground wire, but from your post, it could be a big dilemma.
Over the past year, I've asked other people on this forum if they've had the problem and, so far, no one else has had it.
I'll post the test results of Service A when I get the car back.
Good luck.

Out of curiosity, do both of you have the new V60 phones or the old Timeports? I'm assuming the year old problem involves a Timeport, but does the new problem involve the V60? It seems logical to assume that if the same problem exists with two different phones, it most likely entails a different component.

Hi,
The leads from the microphone to the voice control system are very long, in fact, it goes microphone->a-pillar, down driver side sill duct to trunk to VCS unit, back up towards a pillar and back to the phone-electronics in the trunk (or possibly to the phone cradle). I suspect teleaid cars it goes further still.
Plenty of space to pick up interfence especially if there is anything wrong with any of the looms.
If replacing the control units hasnt worked [both Phone electronics and the VCS units], then a good inspection of the loom in the connector shells where the electronics plugs in would be a sensible move. If they havent replaced the units then get them to check the looms and make sure the shielding connections on the microphone cables are correct and the ground leads are tight.
Theres also a lot of wires in the ducts, including speed signals cables, and it maybee just relaying the loom slightly differently in the duct may help. Replacing the whole loom is a lot of work [I have retrofitted the looms to a UK car, only US cars have the looms prewired whether you order with or without the phone/vcs options]

Figured it out
Well after 22 days at the dealer they finally figured out what the problem was. Turns out it is linked to the SOS and teleaid system. THey took one out of another car and put it in ours and they said it is fixed. So now they are waiting for the part to come in and we should be getting it back soon. I'm very glad. Thanks for everyone's imput.

Back to the drawing board
Well turns out that the dealer was wrong. It had nothing to do with the SOS. So now they are trying the alternators. Anyway i hope its fixed soon.

The dealer is looking into my phone buzzing problem while my car is in the shop for Service A, but they don't have a spare phone to test with and I can't leave my phone with them until I find a replacement phone. Catch-22. The "phone specialist" at the dealer has never heard of such a buzzing problem. I'll keep you posted on any findings.
Have you determined that the buzzing is not in the phone itself? (i.e. by swapping phones?)

yes
Yeah they have swapped phones and plus we didnt hear the buzzing with the phone by itself but instead when using the speakerphone. I'll update with info once something else happens.
