Shifter Noise
So when I shift from park to gear, something sounds like it's loose right below the shifter. I noticed it on my friends clk320 and I guess its something which occurs as the cars gets older. Is something actually loose which I could get to below and tighten? Any DIY info please?
Thanks in advance.

I am bumping this old thread as I now have the exact same problem.
Nothing to do with trans. Shifter only. Weird clunking when going from P to R and D and back again. Like a grommet or something came loose just underneath the console. Makes the shifter feel sloppy, but performs normally. Anyone have a schematic just under the console shift plate?

If its just a clicking sound when you press on the brake and shift from park to R its the interlock and that noise is pretty normal. If its a clunk and feels a little loose its the grommet. Grommet is cheap and doesn't take very long to replace.

Definitely a sloppy clunky feeling, definitely NEW, and deffinitely not the brake safety switch. I ordered the part. I'm gonna get under it this weekend.
