How to remove rear bumper & retro fit parking sensors.

I have seen these reversing kits on ebay and was dubious as they were only £17 del. ($35). But after visiting my family in Malaysia and noticing that loads of cars have the sensors retro fitted I ordered some. They arrived the next day and are now fitted. This is what I did to install them:

1. Removed Rear bumper (see photos).
First pull back side lining you can get to bolts without having to remove complete lining. There are two gold bolt heads on either side. Remove centre plastic tray near lock by prising up plastic locking clips, once removed you can see three 10mm bolt heads with large washers attached. Then on the outside under the wheel arch there is a small 8mm bolt on either side which you may need to jack up the car a little if like me your tyres are a snug fit !

2. With bumper removed choose your position for the sensors and ensure they are semetrical then with the supplied hole drill , dill into the bumper strip. The sensors fit by friction snugly, and use tie-wraps at the rear of bumper to neatly hold cables. There are 5 rubber gromits which can be used to push the sensors cables through for water resistance.

3. I mounted the sensor control box on the inside above the left light. I then had to get power from the reversing light bulb to activate the alarm sensor. And for the buzzer I mounted this under the rear shelf neatly.

It was dark when I finished so couldn't get a good photo, I may take one tomorrow, but they work great and looks very professional.

Smile Parking sensor pics outside

Here are the photos in the daylight as it was dark when I finished yesterday.
I just opted for two sensors as they work fine, but may add the other two that came with the kit later.

Now my car goes 'beep-beep-beep' when I hit reverse!

Looks great and I'll be giving it a try if I get my new E220 estate.
