Thump in reverse while the steering wheel is turned.

Here in NY I have been driving my CLK430 around. Thus, when I put my car in reverse and turn the wheel i here a one or two thumps coming from the front of the car. I was wondering if this was normal since i had the steering wheel turned. Also, it maybe a piece of snow, but most likely not. So what could be causing this noise? Do I need new motor mounts?

Thanks
Steve

I think I have this too. I have to make a funny 3 point type turn in reverse to park my car at work and sometimes I hear the same type of thump..

At one point I thought I ran over something...

I dont think its motor mounts Steve, I just had mine and the tranny mount done less about 3k ago..

??

Maybe ball joints? I saw a post here a while back where going up a driveway at an angle has the same type of noise, and it ended up to be these...

Checking the ball joints is easy and replacing them just a matter of getting a big enough hammer! I had the same symptoms and after replacing the ball joints, knock solved. Just jack the front up and try moving the wheel up and down while looking at the ball joint. Any movement and they are bad. It seems a common problem
