Where can I get a new smart key..

..other than a stealership? I stopped by the ONE and ONLY dealer in the area and they quoted me $242. The rep said MB changed their new key policy a month or two ago and dealers are the only ones who can sell them.

But for $242? Really? From searching the forum, I see that oempartsdirect.com used to have for less than $150 but thats before they went down. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

I'm pretty sure the ones on ebay are useless and would amount to not much more than a pretty paperweight.

That is true that MB changed the ordering policy because of theft related reasons. $242 does sound high though.

Just a thought, but the economy sucks and dealer part business is hurting just like sales and service depts. I'm not sure what area of the country you are in, but haggle with them. Especially if there are a bunch of dealers in your area maybe they will be more likely to strike a deal.

How long ago did you get your smart key? So I guess it is true that only dealers can sell these. Anyone think its possible to order one over the phone from an out of state dealer and have them ship it to me? I'm in southeast VA.

No. New policy specifies the car and customer must be present.
