Engine stuttering and check engine light

I have a 2001 CLK320. Today I faced a weird problem for the first time. I drove my car for 5 minutes and had to make a stop for 5 minutes. At that time the engine wouldn't start and kept stuttering with a red light just above the check engine light coming on. The check engine light came on as well. After trying for 5-10 minutes, the engine started but the check engine light stayed on.

I cannot find my owners manual and do not know exactly what the sign right above the check engine light is for. I suspect it has to do with the engine oil level.

Can fellow experts help me diagnose the problem and what exactly the sign above the check engine light is for?

Any tips are appreciated.

Regards.

It sounds like the Crankshaft Position Sensor (CPS), except for the fault light. I would first take the car to Autozone for a free fault light reading. This way it can tell you what some of the faults were or maybe still are.
