2005 CLK55 COUPE
2002 CLK55 Issue
Can anyone tell me if this is normal? When the car is in park and I floor the gas pedal the car starts to bog down/stumble when it reaches 3500 rpm and will not pass 4500 rpm but when driving the car it has no problems going to 6000 rpm and drives really smooth. Is there some kind of a safety system on the car so you do not hurt the motor when reving it high in park?
One last question, is there supposed to be a clamp on the engine cover which connects to the Mass Air? I can hear escaping when I put my ear near the cover towards the back of the engine where the Mass Air is.
Thanks!

Well, I just got the car and a few days later when I started it, it looked like there was water or steam maybe some white-ish smoke coming out of the muffler but it did not smell or anything. So I figured let me rev the motor to see if more comes out or if it goes away. But after a drive around the block the problem went away. It seems like when I first start the car the same thing happens but goes away after a few minutes. A friend of mine told me it happens to a lot of Mercedes. Hes had a couple of CL 55's where they all did the same thing.
Is this normal?

Water, steam, white smoke at start up is totally normal to ALL newer cars. That is the by-product to the catalytic conversion process before the muffler heats enough to evaporate the moisture. Nothing to worry about on a cold motor but EVERYTHING to worry bout on a warm one unless in very cold climate. Reving a motor not under load at that RPM is not a good idea though.

Thanks for the info on the steam/white smoke.. Yeah, I will not be reving the motor in park anymore. It was just that if freaked me out when I noticed the steam coming out of the muffler.

No clamp.
Tight fitting rubber connection.
Air escaping? Make sure your snug there. Possible regular engine noise. Your car would run funny and possible throw a code if you had a massive air leak right at the MAF.
Dont blow your car up over steam please?
