Help with door strap!!!
Alright, so my drivers door check strap has pretty much completely broken. I've taken off the door panel but I can't seem to figure out how to remove the INTERIOR door panel, you know the metal one? Please if anyone has any experience with doing this I would love an explanation of which bolts I need to remove and where they are. Here is a pic to explain what I'm looking at now:
How do I get behind this panel to replace the strap? Any help greatly appreciated!

There should be two 10mm nuts visible on the outside of the door.........in the jamb area that bolts the door check to the door. Then there should be the other single Torx bolt(can't remember size) under the rubber seal(pulls off) that bolts it to the hinge pillar. As far as accessing and removing the door check all you have to do is take off that(one time use) plastic water shield and reach inside. You might also have enough room if you just remove the door speaker........it's been a while since I've worked on an old 208 body.

I did this a couple months ago and all I had to remove was the door speaker closest to the door jam and raise the window all the way up. This should give you enough room to work. Pull the part out through the door speaker opening and use the same procedure for the install.

Awesome! Thanks for the info guys. Very helpful indeed. Looks like all I need to do it go to the hardware store so I can get that HUGE torx bolt out haha.
Update:
I went to Lowe's and found a T45 Torx head and that worked (even though it wasn't quite big enough). Took me all of 5 minutes to get the catch strap out after that. Thanks again for the help guys. Looks like I'll be "catch-strapless" for a week while I wait for the new one to come in, but better than risking it breaking anything else!

Its a good thing you took it out before it caused any issues. It could have broken off and messed up the window frame causing a 500 dollar mistake!
Also glad we could help out!!

Hi Guys,
I am having the same issue with my 2000MY W208, drivers side door latch.
I know where the bolts are to remove the door panel, etc.
What I am struggling with is to remove the tweeter (speaker) plastic cover at the top of the door frame. I tried different ways to remove it, but all it does is bend and I dont want to flex it to the point where I break it.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Vince

This is what the back looks like. You have to kind of pull it out from the top then once that clip pops out pull it straight up. Trust me when I say that if it's going to break it will. There is really no way around it. I've pulled these pieces off a bunch of times. Sometimes they break sometimes they don't. Hope this helped. Good luck.
