Speeding tickets in California.
Speeding tickets in California.
Anybody know how many speeding tickets I can get in California before I get my license suspended. I got my first one 3 months ago... 75 in a 35. That one I am taking car of with traffic school. I got another one 2 weeks ago... 50 in a 35. That one I am contesting. I got my third one yesterday 93 in a 65. I'm stuck on that one. I'm sure some of you are asking why I don't get a radar.... I have one. The first ticket, the cop says he paced me (which is a load of B.S.). The second one, my radar went off, but I wasn't speeding. In fact, I saw the cop sitting on the side of the road and I purposely kept my car at the speed limit. I was on a busy street full of traffic moving at a crawl. I'm convinced the cop just picked out my car because he hadn't filled his quota for the day. The third one, I forgot to turn my radar on... uggh. I'm actually lucky though because I was going 110 when I saw the cop...
You got to slow down!! ...or else you won't have a driver's license...and much worse can happen!

I have to slow down because I don't want to lose my license. I don't consider myself a dangerous driver. I am usually completely focused when I am driving... no music, no phones. Coincidentally, my wife has been in the car each time I got a ticket.
When you feel the need for speed, pick the places carefully. I never speed in zones where posted speed is lower than the state maximum (not referring to Interstate Highways). On Interstates, learn where the hiding spots are and keep a constant vigil of all that is going on around you. If you see the pack behind you become farther back, chances are good that a cruiser is coming up. Be alert and to be safe.

You are allowed 3 convictions in one year in California. The 4th conviction within a 12 month period will lead to the suspension of your license. Traffic school only masks the conviction from your insurance company so they wont be able to raise your rates. I got 3 tickets in 5 months (all speeding) in 2000. I took traffic school for one but I still got the warning letter that my next ticket would cause me to lose my license. I drove 55 mph from 10/2000 all the way through 04/2001. This included 3 months with my E55 and let me tell you this sucked. The 2 remaining points caused my insurance to go from 1300 per year to over 3k per year. Luckily Mercury has good rates and they dont ding you too bad for points and my rate is now at 1760 per year. Its OK for me to speed again as I am past my one year limit of 4 convictions and can take traffic school if needed. This is for California only and I think you can only have 7 convictions in a three year period or your license will be revoked too.
Very helpful Vic. Thanks. Well, I guess I'm pressing my luck. Hopefully, I can contest that 2nd ticket. It is really going to suck driving slow for the next year.... especially after I throw that Kleeman on top.... hmmm.

i consider my self a vet at this. you are allowed three points on your driving record / year. 1 pt = moving violations ie speeding, rolling stop signs etc... accident=2pts. my advice to you is choose wisely which ticket you fight and which ticket you try to get rid of by traffic school. try and remember, did you argue w/ the cop on any ticket? its best to just smile and go with the flow. your objective is to be compliant and make it a routine stop as possible so that THE COP WILL NOT REMEMBER WHO THE HELL YOUR ARE! fight this ticket!!!! the court gives you opportunity to extend it .. EXTEND IT! time=cop forgetting you even more. the ticket you know you have no chance in hell beating like mine 120mph in 65mph zone.. take the traffic school so your insurance wont go to hell. remember you can only go to traffic school 1x in 18month period.
