I had the same thing happen to me in les snow than you. I kept getting stuck. Pulled up at the lockal cafe to meet a buddy of mine when I realized I wasn't all the way up in my parking spot.
I put it back in drive, and the car would not move. Winter setting made no dif. either did the TC. Next day I bought some winter tires and a set of the MOST UGLY steel rims you've EVER seen, and the car drives better than a 4X4 in the snow.
nickm maybe your tires are different?
I don't know, but I can honestly say that before the snow tires, my car was by far the worst driving experiance I ever had.
Even in compared to the time I drove my vette home & got caught in the snow.....I had a pair of 315/35-17 Hoozier drag radials on.

oh really? I wonder why.
I believe this is a big no no for the CLK, especially on the CLK430, I think I read this in the owner's manual. Chains are not an option, you have to get snow tires.
!Of course it doesn't help that my tires are pretty treadless right now. I will be getting a set of Michelin Pilot Sport A/S when I get a chance...
To my knowledge, chains are only allowed in Europe, and as of sometime in the 70’s their use became illegal in North America. (Well I know it did in Canada)
Still driving the ugly green loaner ML 320 since last Thrusday. I had an ignition lock failure if u don't recall...and now, they are fixing the creaking noise coming from the back of the car. Have to weld it tighter?
Its been crazy winter conditions here in Vancouver. The whole week, its been snowing and raining as well. Last night, went to watch "Count of Monte Cristo", came out, there must of been at least 3cm of snow! Driving home was fun in the ML....especially even more fun because it's not your car! Salt trucks....hee hee, I didn't care!
By the way, it was a very good movie!
