Car will not shift past second gear. Any idea what’s wrong?

On my way home Saturday night my car failed to shift gears and jammed in 1st gear. I pulled over to a gas station to see what was wrong. I turned the car off and then attempted to start it again. It cranked with no difficulty but would not go in reverse. I then tried to put it in park and couldn’t until I turned the car all the way off. Now the car will only drive in 1st gear. The gear light on the dash does not indicate any gear that it is in. So, where the hell do I start? Or is this something that I shouldn't even begin to mess with and take it to a MB dealership?

It sounds like your rpm senor #1 is fautly on the conductor plate in the transmission. Go to your local Autozone/Checker/Oriley's and have them hook up the ODBII to get the error readings. If it is a P07XX (I can't remember exactly which error code it is) error most likely it is that.

If so you will have to bring it to your Indy of if you feel savy enough you can do it, its not too difficult. (I did it)

But before you do that, Did you happen to spill any drink on your shifter? Thought I'd ask because if the electronics assembly on the shifter gets wet it will give the same symptoms.

Hope this helps

I did spill a little bit of coke but I cleaned it up as soon as spilled it. That might be it. I took it a guy here locally that specializing in maintaining and repairing Mercedes Benz. I'll keep you posted...

Glad to here your back on the road. BTW what lowering kit do you have? and are you running with pads or not? I like the way your car sits with the tires tucked underneath your wells.
