upgrading the stereo
hey guys,
I'm starting to design a stereo for my upcoming 00 CLK430. It may or may not have the bose system, but regardelss, I am still going aftermarket.
Head unit issues...are there any kits required to change out the head unit? Is it just a regular din sized radio? I was going to go with a high end Alpine or Pioneer...and ofcourse, use the aux to integrate my IPOD into the system.
Also, I"m only going to be running a set of 6.5 components sets up front (Focal Utopais or MBQuart Qseries) all run by a 100 x 4 Kicler amp, with the rear channels bridged (400Watts)to a single JLAudio 10W7. No rear fill for now.
Anyway, are there special adapters or kits required to put in aftermarket stereos? I know for my Bimmer, I had to get a front kit to get an aftermarket head unit put in.

The CLK can accept a basic single DIN or even a double DIN without any kits... as for harnesses, you can use a VW wire harness.
Alpine or Pioneer are both quality systems.... I like alpine audio... I like Pioneer Video...

i don't think there are any kits that will allow you to use the steering wheel controls. The bose system factory amp will probably need to be disabled and you'll need to replace it with an aftermarket one for the front and rear door speakers. The bose amp could be re-wired to work but would probably cause problems. I had the factory door bose speakers re-wired to my Sony X 4 channel they can handle all 800w and some. The rear speakers had individual amps built right on the speakers so i couldn't use them. I Subbed them out with Fosgate 12" powered by a Bd1000, bridged - 2ohms to 2000w.
