Rear Electric Shade?

THe sunshade is not a standard feature on the 320 or 430... it comes as part of the K3 package. That package include the Electric Rear Sunshade, Sunroof, and Rain sensing Windshield Wipers.

1999 CLK320
I have a 99 CLK320 with the sunroof and electric rear sunshade, but I'm not sure that I have the rain-sensing wipers. Is there any way to check? I drove it on Sunday through a rainstorm of varying strength, and the wiper speed didn't fluctuate.

Well, the only time you'll really notice the Rain sensing wipers is when there is a light mist...
If it is actually raining, it may wipe constantly. You can check your manual to be sure... but according MBUSA... in 1999, the CLK 320 had that option:
Package K3 Power tilt/sliding tinted glass sunroof. Rain-sensing intermittent windshield wiper. Electric rear-window sunshade.1 $1,290
If my memory serves me correctly (doesn't rain much in So Cal, so don't use much), there are 3 settings when you turn the wiper. 1st Click = Auto sensing
2nd Click = Constant
3rd Click = Fast-Constant

another way you can check is look at the windshield from the outside, right behind the rear-view mirror. there should be a black square surrounding a somewhat bluish area, with sensors in the middle.
Or try this... Start your car.... Turn the Wipers stick 1 click (nothing should happen).... pour a cup/bucket of water on the back of the rear-view mirror.... the wiper should wipe 1-2 times until water is gone... then it will stop again.
Thats proof that you have the feature.

CLK 320
The bucket would be a complete validation that the complete system works. Just turning to the first click and nothing happening should let you know that it is the rain sensing wiper (assuming it is not raining) and you don't have to find a bucket. If you don't have the rain sensing wiper I think it is set to once every 5 seconds.

Here is what the manual says..... hope it helps you to understand it a little more. This is from my 2002 CLK430/55 Manual, but functionality should be the same with the CLK320

That's why we don't leave it in rain-sensing mode all the time, during the dry season we'd scratch up our windshields.
