Tire Balance Issue or something else?
I put on new all season tires a few months ago and took off my Michelin Pilot Sports so I could make it through the winter. Ever since I had the new tires put on I have had a shake (shimmy) at the streering wheel. Although it is slight, it is enough that it is driving me crazy.
I have always purchase all my tires for all of my vehicles from tirerack and have them mounted and balanced at Costco ($9.00 per wheel - mount and balance). I have never had problems before. I have been back to Costco 3 times now to have the tires rebalanced and I think the guys there are starting to think I am a nut case.
I have the '17 AMG rims that I use for my winter wheels and I was told they they have to use 'sticky weights' on these rims to balance them because there is no lip. Do you think the guys at Costco are doing something wrong? Should I take it to the dealer to balance (or will it jst be a wast of time and money)? Any other ideas what could be causing this...or am I just nuts!!

I had a similar problem with my Brabus wheels . I came to find that the shimmy was caused by my using the wrong hub rings . I had to use Brabus specific hub rings. I don't know if hub rings is your problem as your wheels may be hub centric but you may want to check.

i have this problem as well with new rims and tyres....
mb reckon the steering damper may be in the way out..... but i havent had time to check it?
other prob that is common over here is front wheel bearings creating play as we have so many roundabouts?

Same Problem
I did the same thing with my 18" Amg's. I kept returning to the tire shop to have them rebalance my tires, three times actually. They said that the wheels might be bent a little. Then I took it to Mercedes and they rebalanced wheels and replaced that steering damper you mention and still no resolve. Finally they told me it was the way the tires were worn. Still like that today. Rides like my old Chevy pickup. Getting new tires in spring, will see if that helps.

Thanks for your feedback. I've been thinking about taking it to the dealer to see what they have to say. However, I may just wait another month until I put my summer wheels and tires back on and see if the shimy goes away and if not then take it in. Either way, I'll let you guys know. Thanks again.
