Noise after oil change.

Hey fellas I changed my oil with instuctions from the diy thread. I I looked to make sure its the same oil from my previous service at the dealer and now when I go about 40mph or higher it sounds like swamp or bogger tires. Car/steering wheel vibrates and makes a mmmmm sound and I gets louder at higher speeds.

Used Mobil1 0w40 Oil and new filter. I topped off oil (too much?)
New tires front(bc i thought maybe tires, back 85% thread)
Dropped a little oil from dipstick area(checked but did not see oil on belts)

No noise until I changed the oil.

Any advise? Thanks in advance.

99CLK320,
Dude?????

that makes no sense. changing oil should have NO affect on your steering unless you dropped a wrench somewhere that is affecting the steering linkage. Not saying it isn't happening. check the splash pan under the car to make sure everthing is tight. other than that, I don't have a clue. take two aspirins and call me in the morning.

I took out half a quart and it's still making noises. When I rev the motor it doesn't make the noise either. I'm puzzled. Thanks

anybody else?

Oh btw nothing dropped in the motor. Lol.

Going to check the wheel bearings. I replaced the left side already. Maybe left?

Well I had about 10% left in the front before oil change. Sounded quite even with near bald front tires.

Started making noise after change. I thought maybe front tired so I changed them. Needed repalcement anyhow.

Still making noise. Could be just the oil. Maybe change to 5w?

well how much oil did you put in??? should be between 8-8.5 quarts. If that is what you put in, you have problems totally unrelated to the oil change.

Have you checked for an oil leak?

If the large O ring is not installed properly, the filter will leak and get on the belt / pulleys.

Easy to check (pull of engine cover).

Dripping will collect in the splash guard but eventually show up on the ground after being parked.

Thanks for the replies. I check for leaks
and didn't see any on other parts. I'll pull the cover and do a comprehensive check on it.

Could also be unrelated an could be wheel bearings which I doubt as it happened after change.

Rear tires not replaced as it's still good. Approx 80 or more left.
Replaced the front after change because possibly of noise and needed replacement.

Still. Mmmm. Maybe change the oil to something higher?
I think not bc I threw it in nuetral to a complete stop and still.

I think when I jacked up the car from driverside rocker molding the passenger side wheel had a lot of weight on it.

Regreased wheel bearings.

What about Differential Fluid? Anyone know what kind of fluid to use?

Do we have a front Differential too?

Thanks again.

If you took the front bearings out did you make sure to do both the inner and outer front wheel bearings?? I suggest just buying the new bearings, race's and seals from Oreilly's for 30 bucks and have them all new instead of just repacking the grease.

As far as the differential goes..We only have a rear diff since its rear wheel drive. You should buy the fluid from an MB dealer since it uses a special synthetic fluid. You will also need to buy the sealant so that you can place the cover back on, it does not use a gasket, it just uses a special silicone type sealant.
