2005 CLK55 COUPE
K&N Filters

Hey all,

So is it worth getting K&N filters for a CLK55? Will it really make any difference in any way compared to a regular air filter besides being able to reuse it? Performance difference, gas mielage, etc?

Thanks!

k&n does great pr about their gains but on your 55, it's just not worth it. Many buyers have messed up their maf because they over oil the filters.

No, I was just thinking of getting the stock K&N replacement filters as OEM.

The filters will make a small difference and shouldn't mess with your MAF unless they are substantially over-oiled. The biggest performance increase will come on 430's by swapping to a 55 box (doesn't work on 320s). I posted dyno results some years ago where I picked up around 15-20 hp between the filters and the box. Don't hold me to those numbers as I don't mod the CLK anymore (gonna sell it actually) and I'm too lazy to find my old posts.

Also - the CLK55 airbox is pretty much like the CLK55 cat-back; it's about as good as it gets when it comes to the V8 CLK's. I haven't seen a cat back or an airbox that can top performance of their AMG counterparts. If something magical has come out in the last few years, please correct me.

99CLK320,
buyers have messed up their maf

I'm convinced that K&N took out my MAF. The car had under 20k when I installed it in the heat of the summer and shortly there after, bye bye MAF. They have an oily coating and the kit you can get to clean and refurbish has a solution to apply to the filter after cleaning that comes with a warning that says something like don't apply too much of this stuff. I believe that solution, whatever it maybe, coated the sensor element. I have a K&N for a 320 with a refresh kit I would like to pass on to someone who is a believer. I'm not.
