Transmission Help

I will really need an advise.

My daughter dropped juice on the shifter, and something went wrong, and I can't shift anymore, the car just stopped.

Can somebody advise me, what is wrong with this transmission?

I really appreciate all the advices.

OH NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! You might have just fried the electronic shifter assembly. Some members have had some luck taking the whole shifter apart and cleaning it up with electronics spray but it may or may not work. If I were you I would definitely try and give it a try before I spent good money getting it repaired.

I heard that it costs up to 700 dollars to get it fixed at the dealer but the actual part only costs about 350 so you may want to take it to an independent mechanic that fixes Euro vehicles so that you can save money on the labor. The part that you shorted out is the Transmission Range Recognition Switch (TRRS) circuit board, it’s an integral part of the gear shift mechanism. Since its Version coded to the vehicle a used one will not work, new from MB is the only fix.Or, you can try and find the part at BuyMBparts.com and see if they have one there as well and save even more cash.

I will try and look for some pictures for you.

Thanks a lot

Hi Greg,

Thank you very much for detailed feedback. I read in other forums that there is a way to push something and bypass that, and be able to shift it, just to at least drive to the house, have you heard anything like that?

Its in the manual. There is a insertion point at the base of the shifter. You have to use a screwdriver or pen and press down and it will release the shifter.Check your drivers manual.

Thanks

Thank you very much, I was able to drive the car on the first gear to the house.

Is it possible that I can dry that module with a blow dryer, and get it working?

I don't know.If you do , you might want to use some "contact cleaner" (made by CRC-available at some auto stores, most electrical supply houses) and see if that will work.

There are a couple guys that have done it and it worked but to be honest the majority of them had to buy a new one. Personally I would try and dry it out and clean it with some electric component spray cleaner. You should be able to find it at autozone.
