Command

Is there any way to play DVD's on the stock US command unit that has the cd drive above the screen?

Yeah you have to get the whole unit reprogrammed to get it to display an auxillary video source. I would be more cost effective to just swap a european unit in there. Steve from the Netherlands (s_krabbenborg@hotmail.com) would be of more help. Good Luck. :0)

So Josh, with the European unit, it automatically can play DVD? Or do you need any additional program or device? If so, how much is it approx?

You cannot use the COMAND CD drive to play DVDs. What Josh was implying is that the Euro COMAND is able to display TV/Video, while the US needs to be reprogrammed and it is much more difficult, and along with a video adapter (either a MB TV Tuner or Megacomm Adapter) an external DVD player can be connected to play DVDs.

I had mine installed by him in February, works great!

Yeah I agree, you should definitely contact Steve. While you can get them from ebay.de, I consider it pretty risky wiring that much money overseas and you can't really be sure of what you're buying. Steve, however, is extremely reputable and stands behind his stuff. He retrofitted my car with Euro COMAND and I couldn't be happier.
