Std CD Changer - MP3 capable?
OK, I think I know the answer, but does the standard 6-CD changer in a 2002 CLK play MP3's on a disc? I kinda doubt it and there is no reference to what sort of CD's it supports in the manual. Thanks very much!

they dont play mp3s, thats why i opted not to get the changer. i placed an mp3 cd player in my clk which can hold about 130 songs, or roughly 10 cds on 1 cd, and its more convenient.

MP3 cd players and changers are great... you get so much music to choose from without the headache of having 100s of CDs in the car.

i dont like the idea of having a hard-drive based mp3 player in the car becuase of the heat that generates in the car during the summer season and the freezing temps in the winter, esp here in MA. I have a cd based portable player hooked up to the car. and putting in new songs is very simple, just burn a new cd....very cheap also. i like the iriver cd players. the cd player can be hidden and the wired remote is great with the titles displayed on it.

There I go again, forgetting I live in sunny CA! ;0) LOL. You don't have to leave an iPod in the car, though. It's about the size of a pack of cards, so you can just throw it in your pocket ;0)

My C.D. changer is broken. It is FIBER OPTIC, but not by Mercedes. It is from BECKER. I am planning to buy a new CD changer (factory one), but it seems like there is a better solution (such as installing IPOD, MP3, etc...)
What is your suggestion if you are in my position?

That was the question right?

I believe his question was whether or not it could play CD's burned as MP3 cd's which is a different format allowing you to fit around 70 songs on one CD. I have also burned MP3's onto an audio CD and played them, but the burning program burns them as AIFF files which are readable by most CD players.

standard music cds hold about average 16-20 songs... i believe the question is, can it read a CD with MP3 file formats rather than the standard CD which usually uses WAV files. A CD of MP3 files under MP3 file format can hold about 150 songs per disc(comparable to about 10 discs)

Can the Factory CD Changer reads the AIFF files ??
thanks

Yes, a standard changer can read AIFF files; that is the standard audio file format for CD's. I've never burned an "MP3 CD" so mmgrad's info is more accurate regarding how many songs they can hold. To answer the question, if you have MP3's on your computer and burn them to CD in standard Audio CD format, they will play in the factory changer. If you burn it as a MP3 format disc in order to fit more songs on the CD, it will not.

external players
Those of you without a command system, how are you hookin' up your external players to the casssette deck? I've tried a sony cassette adapter and can't close the bloody door correctly, and even when I try to rig it (i'll enclose a pic), it still seems to beep.
Any suggestions for specific products and methods? I would love to get a MP3 player in the car.

I used to slip the cable for the cassette adapter between the 1 and 4 keys. It would just slide between them. I had to find a cheap cassette adapter though because it uses the flat-type wire, whereas I think the Sony uses a round shielded cable.
