How to get gearshifter off

How to get gearshifter off
My cloth under or attached to the gearshifter metal part is ripped off and I want to get to it

I manage to get the black clip surrounding the whole gearshifter off but I never can get passed that

I tried to turn the leather knob but its not getting off

All I have now is a ripped cloth and a wobbly leather knob gearshifter :{

PLease help!!!

99CLK320,
there is a collar at the bottom of the gearshift knob that rotates counter clockwise(I think). If you turn that you should be able pul the know off.

This is where I end at anyone know how to get this off?

It;s that cloth in the middle that is supposed to cover the mechanical end of the gear
