1999 clk 430 starting issues (CPS)

I am being told by a former Mercedes Benz tech that i am suppose to change out both the Crank Position Sensor and the Camshaft sensor. He is telling me that u never change out just one always the two if either goes bad. Doesn't sound right to me because the price of parts and labor goes from $145 labor and $95 for crank position sensor to $285 Labor and $165 camshaft sensor + $95 Crank postions sensor Grand Total $545. I just want to know if i only change the Crank positions sensor and my car fires up. will the camshaft sensor still need to be replaced shortly afterwards.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Crankshaft/Camshaft Sensor Replacement

The Crankshaft position sensor for your car is $40.00 at AutohausAZ.Very easy DIY job! MarcusF has all the info on his "Signal to Noise" site. The Camshaft position sensor is $59.00.

CLK 430
Pretty esay,I did mine this morning, same issue paid $52 at Autozone. Took me 10 minutes....Just a tip:

Use small socket set and when putting the screw back , use a piece of papertowel on the scocket. It helps the screw stay on the socket and not fall off.

I just replaced the CPS on my CLK last weekend, it's 15 min job and I haven't had any issues. Just make sure which CPS you have (single or double clip) my 320 had the double clip. Just shine a light at the CPS and you will be able to tell by looking at the connector. I did replaced that stupid inverted torx screw with a stainless steel allen head screw. Good Luck!
