Talking MAXED OUT AIR

IN MY INTAKE THAT I GOT FROM VIP.. I wanted more air to flow DIRECTLY into my intake and to sit in the fender all the way down(underneath the projector hole where NO heat whatsoever will get to my intake.. This is what i did.
I added to Vip's intake an another 45 degree tube and a silicone couplet and i reversed it so it looks almost like a reversed elbow...
then to get more air flow, i removed the plastic cover that covered the tow hook and i mashed it up then i painted it black all across..
Now DEf Intake sounds very loud and i will get a video soon and more cold air u get into the intake and louder it gets.. I def felt the speed too...Amazing...

one more thing i want to do is to wrap my tube because its getting hot from the engine.
From my past experience (my v8 trans am WS6 that i used to have),my headers and my exhaust were wrapped up and kept the heat off.. I know they make a heat shield that goes over the entire intake.

that looks really good!! the only thing about those low intakes is if you ever hit a really deep puddle, sucks water straight into the intake.

i would not drive on anything but bone dry roads with that setup. I see the OP lives here in NoVa. I hope it's not his daily driver, because we get rain here...

that is exactly how i had the intake when i had my 320 bumper with the barbus front lip, but one thing that you are not taking in consideration is that yes having that extra cold air is nice but when you are driving your filter is moving against all dirt from the road and also in rainy season against the rain which equals two things;
1. excessive engine damage if you are lucky just a maf would burn out really quick and shut off your engine so your engine didn't suck in water to the point of no return, if not complete engine flush, new plugs, fluids, electricals, etc...
2. you will grab all the dirt from the road and you will have to go trough filters like underware.

but if you are happy then thats all that matters, i just tought you should know what you are getting yourself into. best of luck to you brother.

question for u Ash...
How would the water gets in???? the filter is higher than the mesh ( its not sitting in front of the mesh, then yes water will get to it with no doubt)and its tucked in to the right of the fender ( in that empty gap)and beside underneath the fog light and the intake, i got that plastic cover.. Now i dont see how would the water would go up 80 to 85 degree to my filter from the mesh and its above the mesh.
i had the same set up on my previous car and the filter was so low that u can see it and no prob and i never had that plastic cover too.

im gonna test it tomorrow, gonna get a hose and aim it through the mesh and gonna try to get water in every direction there is, sideways, diag, up, down, left and right and even 90 degree from the mesh and see how it goes.

Thank u for the input Aziz ...

No worries brother, i just dont want you to messup your ride, but the water can get your filter in many different ways, you can hit a puddle, rain and just pure moistness that will be created in case of a rain that gets in the bottom of thw fender liners. you'll be suprise how water travles it will travle and find its way to your filter in ways that you cant imagine. also you mentioned that your old car was transam or something of that sord, those engines are not as sufisticated nore as sensetive as the engine in your CLK. Also remember those plastics (fender liners) are not air and water sealed, you hit a puddle and behinde your fog light will fill up with air in a hot second and will drain again, but all it takes is that second for your engine to suck in water. It's up to you how ever you like to run it, but i just want you to know what you are facing. but the work is well done. great job.

the problem is all of your engine breathing is routed through that tube. and engines take in a lot of air. here in florida, i must fix at least 5-8 cars a summer that ran throught a puddle that was deeper than they thought, air intake sucks up water, saturates the filter and shuts off the engine (best case) or hydro-locks the engine and bends valves (worst case). i've seen some people put a 1" hole higher up on the intake tubing, so most of the air comes from below. but, if you hit deep water, it doesn't create so much suction that it pulls in the water, pulls some air from the auxillary hole. just a thought. you have such a nice ride, i would hate to see the eng trashed from driving through a deep puddle.

in the mid 90's bmws were notorious for it. the air intakes were very low on the front end. it seems like manufacturers have started moving them higher in later years.
