Removing Back seat

I have a 2003 CLK 430 and I need to remove the back seat because I have been told the hydrolic system is located for the convertable top. If this info isn't correct, please provide me where it's located and how do I get to it.

99CLK320,
Did you use the Search function? There are numerous posts about the tops.

Removing Back seat

I was asked if I had performed a search about my issue. I have to say no. I am new to this web site and not comnpletely aware how to use it. I am in the learning process. In the mean time, if some could assist I would appreciate it. Thank you.

It's quite simple....just select the 'Search This Thread' tab with appropriate key word(s) and begin reading.

If I'm not mistaken, the hydraulic reservoir, motor is located in the bottom of the trunk.

Recall some of the prior postings had very detailed information, pictures etc..

When I performed the Search (thank you for providing the info) I was only able to find replies stating the hydrolic reservior was under the spare tire, however on a 2003 CLK 430 this isn't the case. This is why I have posted my question. Anyone that can assist it would be appreciatecd.

Try searching with the correct spelling.......'hydraulic'.

The picture in the first post, in the above link, shows where the hydraulic pump is located (e.g. as I said, in the trunk which is the same as your 2003 CLK430).

Here are pictures, detailing how to remove a panel that needs to be removed, to expose the pump.

leave the seat alone. All you need is under the plate at the front of the trunk beneath where the top would stow. Bout 20 10mm bolts hold this in place. Take care when removing... the radio amp is attached to that plate on the pass side.

Thank you so much, this is great information. Only have one additional question. It states in the manual to take the special tool and insert it between the back seat and the trunk. I did so but couldn't tell whether or not I was on the nut I was suppose to be. How to you know what your suppose to loosen when you can't see it.

its more of a release function than loosen. bout a quarter turn is all and you will see the cover "pop". Then just pull up by hand and it should stay in the open position for you to lower the top. same in reverse when you lock it back down. you will feel it "click" into position and your done

Convertible top Issues

Several of you have provided me the necessary info to get to the components for my convertible top. I have checked the hydraulic fluid and gave everything else a look over and wasn't able to find anything. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Maybe I missed something but all I got was you were after the pump location? What are the symptoms you are having? Whats working/not working?
