Popping Sound from Bose System

Popping Sound from Bose System
Here we go again...
I've got a 2002 CLK 430 with the standard Bose system. While I was driving earlier the radio was playing, made a popping noise, and went silent. The audio display on the instrument cluster showed some dashes, like ------, and the stereo itself went blank. I switched it to CD and it played for a little bit, however, it started to make the noise as well. Anyone know where I need to start to try and diagose what's wrong? Thanks.
