Loose shifter / shifter bushings?

Loose shifter / shifter bushings?
2001 CLK 320
My shifter [automatic] has suddenly become very "loose" when shifting from P to R to D. Also hear a bit of a metallic clatter from underneath the car when shifting.
I presume what I'll need are replacement 'shifter bushings' and can anyone offer tips on replacement? From the top, bottom, ???
Have not had an opportunity to get the car up in the air and take a good look underneath...

Same shifter as my 2000 C280 according to parts website when I checked for a replacement shifter. I just replaced my whole shifter a few days ago (had to take out the center console which was very easy). In my opinion if I had to replace the bushing, I'll do it from top by removing the shifter. I did it from the bottom on my W124 Coupe and it was a pita, had to use a bolt and washers to press in the new bushing.
