ordering a W208...

I went to the dealer to order my CLK today. We have agreed for a long time that I wanted the current body style and an early June delivery. He whipped out his in-process list and said that we could "modify" an existing vehicle being built with an "A" code per the list. (Once the code changed to "B", the changes could not be made.) The car would be delivered in April.

Like most salesman, he reboots between visits and I have to re-educate him from scratch. He is telling me that we can substitute another "A-code" vehicle next month but that he feels that we cannot be certain we will get the current body style if we do not reserve a vehicle now, and possibly be stuck with an early delivery. Of course MB says nothing officially and he keeps saying "You just don't know about these things". The earliest I have seen anyone report here that the old body would be cut off would be July. I saw a car mag today that is reporting that the W209 will be orderable in October.

We still haven't signed anything, so I think I'm OK on the W208...except I think I need a new salesman. I was thinking of writing MBUSA to see if I could get some sort of official answer about this. Any suggestions?

2002 CLK 55 AMG Coupe ;)
I was thinking of writing MBUSA to see if I could get some sort of official answer about this. Any suggestions?
1. Call 1-800-for-merc

2. Go to another dealer

3. If you are ordering a CLK55 AMG, it might be too late. You might have to settle for what is in the pipeline.

I'm ordering a 320 Coupe.

I called 1-800 for merc. They said there "is no change coming for the CLK" and that "you can order the current body style through the end of the calendar year."

It's good to see that I am dealing with a typical corporation and that the left hand doesn't even admit the existance of the right hand. It was a fantasy that paying much more for a vehicle would relieve the need to deal with a typical service organization. I will pray hard that my car doesn't die after 72 miles and that my seats don't catch on fire.
