I put them in my show car. There is not enough room to put them in the side marker lights, unless you go with a different type of light. Standard strobe lights are too large.

Bruce (Lowryder) has strobe lights on his CLK... i think in the highbeam assembly... maybe he can offer you some suggestions

Yeah, I replaced strobe lights w/ my high-beam, I simply just took out the high beam bulbs, connect the strobe light to the high beam so it'll turn on when the high beam is working. I've also tried putting strobe lights in turn signal, low beam, reverse light, and they all worked. Just let you know that strobe lights are illegal and my friend has gotten a ticket for it.
I think it's a great idea to replace it as reverse light so you can give people some warning when they're tailgating you. To do so, take out your reverse light bulbs AND rear fog light, connect the strobe lights to the rear fog light and put the bulbs in the reverse light housing, this will diable your reverse light and rear fog light but when you turn on your rear foglight, the strobes will start blinking in the reverse light housing. Ok, have fun now
P.S. you will get a lighting error if you put strobes in your car
