1998 CLK 320 RED
Clk 320 Rwd Question
Hi I am a first time MB owner and am very pleased with my acquisition of a pristine Red 98 320. I live in Ohio and Winters are definitely slippery. I wonder about traction and what kinds of tire variations have been used succesfully by those of you out there that have driven yours in Wintry conditions. ??? Snow tires? If so..what kind have worked best.
Very happy new MB guy
Will post pic when I get a chance!

Hey napoli. I live in Sunny SoCal so I don't have snow tire info for you, but I just wanted to congratulate you on your purchase and welcome you to the board! :0)

napoli,
Welcome aboard! I live in Pittsburgh so we have pretty much the same winters. Although I usually don't drive the CLK in the winter, I do put my stock wheels and a set of all season tires back on during the winter months (just in case). If you want purely winter tires, Blizzaks are great. The CLK does do suprisingly well in the snow. Be sure to use the W mode on snowy days (it starts you out in second gear and you won't slip as much).

Snow tires
I have a MY00 CLK 430 cab so it came with sport tires. I live in Chicago. I immediately ordered snow tires and use them every winter. The car is great in snow with these tires. I have Blizzaks, I believe the model number is LM22. They offer very good snow traction and excellent highway traction in winter. They were marketed as providing better highway traction than the WS series, but slightly less snow traction. I have not noticed any problem in the snow with these tires. I figured that since most winter driving was done on clear or snowplowed roads, I wanted to get tires that were optimal for highway driving in the winter as well as for snow traction. Whatever you do, if you get decent snow tires, you will notice the improvement.
