BAD Fan Regulator. Help!

Hello,

I could not control the blower fan in my 2002 CLK 430, after doing some reading online all the threads pointed at the Voltage Regulator.

I purchased the regulator, replaced it and everything works fine until the key is out of the ignition.

When the car is running it works great. 10 seconds after the key is out of the ignition the fan comes on and stays on at a constant speed.

I have to remove the fuse so it doesn't discharge the battery.

Any ideas?

All your help is greatly appreciated!

Thank You

Which fan are you talking about, the cabin blower fan, or the auxillary fans in front of the radiator ? All three of these fans are controlled by the blower regulator.

My apologies, it is the cabin blower fan.

That is odd. It is not uncommon for the auxiliary fans to run for a while after the engine is shut off, to help the engine cool, but have not heard of this happening with the cabin fan.

What were the symptoms before you replaced the blower regulator ?

I could not control the fan speed at all and it was on even with the engine off.

When I replaced the regulator it works like it is supposed to but only when the engine is running or the ignition set to on.

When I take the key out there's a 10 sec delay and the fan kicks on. I can't control it until I insert the key again.
