EC Button Stuck on after freo leak

I had a freon leak in the value from which you freon is added to the AC line. I ran dry on freon and after replacing the value and refilling with freon the EC button will not engage to allow the AC compressor to function. Not having AC is a ***** in TX. Mercedes said the entire climate control dash board would need to be replaced.... no surprise. By accident I figured out that if you start the car on or just turn the key to the last position before it starts then turn the key back off then back on and then push the EC button it will work. When I start the car the EC light is on and will not turn off while the car is running. You have to turn the car off and prceed with the above procedure to get it to work.

Gosh I hope this all makes sense.......... this is my first post. HELP!

I may have misunderstood your key procedure, but the ac wont work without the car running. How did you refill the system? Without the proper evac and fill... the compressor will not engage, hence no AC. Most indies should be able to service for you... certainly not a dealer only fix.

You don't have to buy a new dash control, all you have to do is have the dealer reset that ex button and then you will be able to use it from the first start. When I had this issue I did the restart car twice fix for over a year and then got it fixed at the dealer through a reset. The ec button comes on when you are low on freon and stays on even after you fill it back up with freon hence the need to hve the dealer reset. It cannot be reset with the normal Check engine light tool.

Warning

First i want to say that if you have a leak its most likely from your Low pressure hose (Bigger Hole) on the AC compressor. The 0 Ring seal that the dealer gives is purple and its the wrong seal. Dont think its correct because its wrong. IT SHOULD BE EITHER GREEN or BLACK. Mine was Green from the Original COmpressor but the new One i got was BLACK. It should be almost twice as thick as the purple one and it should be just slightly bigger. Berely NOTICBLE. TRUST ME it should not be purple.

ANYWAY. ... back to the EC LIGHT. So after spending 3 days trying to fix the leak and trying to figure out what the deal is my EC like was stuck. So i read online and this is what worked for me. TURN on the car. Go to your climate control and set driver side to blow LOW and Passenger side to blow HI. then press and hold for a second or two the EC and REST buttons. The light will dissapear and your AC will kick in. Wether this is a solving problem for the long run . I dont know because It worked for me three starts later without having to bypass it like that. I did it today so I dont know but for now its working fine. Hope this helps.
