CLK 430
tires

my front tires on the 99 clk 430 are now worn out and i want to replace them with the new s0-3 pole positions....the only problem is that the rear tires have a lot of tread left and i don't want to waste the money to change them too!......i was just wondering if i had so-3's in the front and the pilot sports in the back if it will affect my handling and grip.....if it does and i assume that it will how much less handling and grip will i have compared to if i just replaced the front tires with the michelins....thanks in advance for the advice

Shouldn't be that bad since both the SO-3's and Pilots are great tires!

I don't think its a good idea to mix tire brands or even mix different models of the same brand because of the tire construction differences.

One time I changed the fronts only to a different model of Dunlops while waiting for the rears to show up and the handling was a little squirmy. It cleared up as soon as all 4 tires were the same.

Completely agree with this statement but as you can see Angel doesn't really want to spend the money to get a new complete set.

CLK 430
i am assuming that the concensus is to buy two pilot sports for the front so they match the two in the back even though i want to try out the so-3 pole positions???

If you want the Bridgestones, its better to get 4 of them or get 2 now and see what happens.

The S-03s are amazing, my bro has them on his M3, very sticky, I can't wait to get a set for mine!

Audi 80 Quattro (with a couple of modifications)
It's not to big of a deal getting different tires. Just take it easy until you get the cash to purchase another two tires to complete the set. And never mix tires on the same axle or if you have AWD always have the same tire all around.

so you are saying that if i get the so-3's for the front and keep the pilots for the back i shouldn't push the car hard into corners etc???
