1999 CLK320 - Which Oil
Hi All, this old chestnut, its due a oil filter change but not sure what to use I've been given a choice of 2 both fully sym 0w-30 or 5w-40
Looking through its early yrs it had 0w-30 at the dealer but the last few yrs the sh just says oil change at an indy so no idea whats in it, its uk based 81K and a 1999 3.2, I've also been told the 0w-30 is the better one as its thinner when hot and flows better and mpg providing the engines good (I hope it is), I do 3/4 motorway the rest mixed 12K at yr, had the car for a few months so no idea how much it uses,
The book says use the correct MB spec and the oil makers look up guides point to 10w-40 semi which I don't think is correct,
Any thoughts? its as clear as mud, cost is the same so it whats best,

For me it basically comes down to ensuring MB has approved it, they put it through lots of tests and have stringent requirements. Mobile 1 is my choice it has MB-Approval 229.3 and 229.5.

Both Mobile 1 0W-40 and 5W-50 are fine. I live on the edge of a desert so I use 5W-50 cause its got better viscosity at temp extreams.
Just remember any oil you use must have MB-Approval 229.3 and 229.5.
