Question Ticking/Knocking noise

Anyone experience a ticking or knocking sound after a cold start?

I've got a 99 CLK430 w/ 53k miles, and for the first few miles of driving after a cold start, I always hear a ticking sound. The sound disappears after I've driven for awhile.

My dealer believes defective lifters are the cause, but in order to confirm, they need to take things apart, which of course cost $$$.

2001 CLK 55 AMG
My CLK 55 had that after 300 miles and it turned out to be a defective lifter. See if an oil change stops the problem. Could just be some nasty oil that after it gets warmed up circulates properly.
