320 to 430 conversion

Has anyone heard of converting a CLK 320 over to a 430?

If someone had the V-8 engine, what would an entire changover consist of? Besides the engine, what are the main differences? transmission, wiring harness, differential, what else? would the wiring harness from the V-8 work with the dash and instruments of the 320?

thanks

Conversion

My first Benz was a CLK 320 and it was beautiful, strong V6 but I was craving the power of the 8. Anyway, I sold my 320 and bought a new 430 cab. It would cost you less to buy a 430 instead of doing the conversion because there are quite a few differences between the two models. Some of them are suspension, wiring harness transmission...

good luck

I agree that it would be cheaper to sell the car under normal circumstances.....but I have kind of an interesting situation.

My 320's engine is badly damaged, and I know of a rolled over clk 430 that I can purchase. I was thinking of switching over the entire drivetrain from the 430, rather than replacing my existing 6 cyl.

Probably a new computer system for the new drivetrain will be needed and I understand they're big bucks. Buy a 430 and you'll be better off in many ways

How much did you spent for selling your 320 and buying a 430?

I found another rolled over CLK.....but this one is a CLK55. I would like to buy this car for the 5.4 amg engine, and put it in my 320. The car will be sold at an auction in one month.

Does anyone know what the 5.4 engine with wiring harness would be worth by itself? Can you buy these engines anywhere?

I think it would be very cool to have a sleeper 320 with the 5.4.

Thumbs up Engine Swap

I wouldn't mind swapping my 430 engine for a 5.4liter...any idea how much the car will go for?

Thanks

I have no idea how much this car will go for........it probably wont be cheap. There are many salvageable parts on it besides the engine and tranny, so someone will buy it and try to part it out. Most of the interior is in good shape, as well as one fender, the hood, and the headlights.

You never know for sure though.....sometimes I get lucky and make a good buy. We'll see if I can get it cheap.

less headaches and problems by just selling your 430, and picking up a clk55 for around 20-24K

Ya definitely less headaches and cheaper to just sell what you have and buy the 430 or better yet the 55. IMO it just makes better sense.

Honestly, the 430 isn't supposed to be that much stronger than the 320. I'm sure at higher speeds it pulls harder, but if ur gonna swap engines, get a BIG one! otherwise, u might as well switch cars.
