Are wheels interchangable????

Hello all, it may sound silly but I honstly am not sure if they are or not.

I am looking to buy two amg 5 stars for the front to match my rears. The ad does not say if they are front or rear. Based on the size I guess they are rear 17x 8.5. I recently upgraded my rear wheels to a newer model amg than I had. (By a few years) i already had amg on the coupe but i got a hewer pair for the rear.

The rears I tossed on the back are MUCH cleaner than what amgs I had on. I can also tell they are newer. My stars were kinda rounded in between them, the ones I replaced them are not round inbetween the star. Hard to explain but I like the newer ones better.

Anyway, if I buy the wheels for my fronts that match the style of the rears and they end up being rears can they be put on the front without out issue? Is what makes them rears (if thats what they are) the size only?

Ill try to grab a pic

Sorry so complicated.

I would think that you will need to check the rim width on that one to see what you will be getting before you buy. In my experience when a vehicle comes with a "staggered" set of wheels then there is a reason. I am going to assume that you are referring to your CLK 430. I have had cars in the past that came with a similar setup (my 1989 Conquest TSI) as the fronts were 16X7.5 and the rears were 16X9 factory. So if the wheels you get are for the rear they will most likely stick out quite a bit and not look very goor at all. hope this has helped.

99CLK320,
I have 17"x8 w/32mm offset on the front of my car. the factory offset is 35mm so with that said if the offset of the rims you want to buy is 35mm those rims would not stick out IMHO. the 3 mm difference in the offset only accounts to 0.11811 inches

This is also true, but the real factor here is his wheel is 8.5 inches wide and the offset is unknown. my comment was based on the wheel size he stated and that it was presumed that he was referring to his CLK 430, which by those measurements would make that a rear wheel wouldn't it? Not trying to offend, just clarify?

You both have very good points. The wheels were already sold so I missed my chance but I am seeing more online all the time and should be purchasing two replacment front wheels soon.

FYI when I asked if wheels (front & back) were interchangable, I was asking more on the line of if there was anything physically different that would prevent it from workimg like perhaps the backside of the wheels were different that would prevent me from making the switch? Could have been a case where the rotors didnt clear the fronts or something.

Will let you guys no
