Ashtray door lid won't stay shut?
The door over my ashtray continues to pop open whenever I try to close it.
Has anyone had this problem or found a solution?

Happened to me before, would keep trying to close it and then radomly it would close. Took it out and found it had some grime or other crap built up around the mechanism. Took like 5 minutes to clean out the crap.

Worked fine after that.

I have a new in box one for a 06 slk. If its the same as yours you can have it for 20 bucks.

How do you take the mechanism out to clean it?

Thx Dominic for replying also.
$20 is a fair price. I doubt they would be the same but I'm not sure. My lid has black birds eye maple on the top of it as well so that would have to be removed. Does anyone know if it would fit or if the wood can be changed?

No problem. Do you have nav? You have to remove the gear shift bezzle, shifter knob to get to, two scews that hold down the ash tray. Pop out your nav and then the tray comes out.

I just realized that I still have my old ashtray in the darker wood that you ave. (I switched to the light wood) if you want it you can have it for $10 plus what ever actual shipping is. It is pretty much perfect. I can post a pic if you want. Let me know if you want it, I can mail it out Mnday morning.
