2000 CLK 430 IPod install
Hello all,
Finally got around to installing the ipod kit from CLK Geek today and to say I am happy is an understatement. Before I only could rotate the 6 cds in the changer for my tunes. After installing the set up I instantly added 700 songs to my coupe. Sweet!!!!!
Yeah I know some clks come with the aux cable in the glove box for ipod hook up but not every CLK comes with that. Yes I have the command, nav, steering wheel controls, 6 cd changer in the trunk but I did not have the little hole and aux cable in my glove box.
So, after about two hours worth of work. (Taking apart the console, radio and connecting the wires) I now have an ipod that plays through the car speakers, I can change music via steering wheel control and yes it charges my phone.
Now even though it has been covered before on these boards and others, I can finally say 100% 4 sure that YES, you can hook an ipod up to the factory Mercedes radio!
FYI- before the questions start, I am waiting on the replacement center wood trim around the stick shift. It is temp covered with cloth because it was just way to cracked to leave as is. Thats why it is blk.
Special thanks to CLK Geek!

Hey, I purchased mine used from a forum member elsewhere, he was installing a new head unit that came with ipod connections as well as some other things so he didnt need it anymore.
Here is the website, they have tons of stuff but I know nothing on cost new.
Best wishes.

Ended up finding this on other forum. You got 500$ worth of stuff for nearly free good buy man lol. But at full price you can do a lot more for your stereo. But at what you got it for its great.

No it might work, the guy I got it from did not have a nav unit, he had an Audio 30 (factory head unit with cassette). He sent me a pic of his unit wires to help me with install. I know nothing about the different radio units but his unit wires for the most part matched my Nav, some extra wires on mine it looked like but I found the wires he told me to look for.

I'll cut and paste some of his email to me when he was giving me tips on how to install. I have several pics of his unit, you can compare to yours.
The reason I like it beaides playing my ipod is I really like the factory unit clean look and the extras you get by keepng the oem unit.

Agreed the pics you sent is the exact same unit I have in the car now. However the CD player is not in the car,and not even sure where the tape player would be lol, not that I would dust off my massive tape collection anyways. Oldschool rocks!

This is a good product but be careful. I did this about 5 years ago and about two weeks ago it stopped working. I played around with it and can't figure out if its the dension unit or the fiber optic running to the unit. I have emailed tech support and their response is that they can not sell me a fiber optic cable in their kits because they do not have any extra. Therefore not to happy with their support.

If this costs $500, then you could of had a nice new double-din setup with touch screen, Nav, bluetooth, backup camera, Ipod, sat radio, and steering wheel controls. It makes more sense to update with aftermarket than to try and mod the 10+ year old factory equipment.

Valid points.
My ipod unit cost $30 and an hour to install myself. My factory unit works great and looks great so no need for me to change it except for the worn buttons that I am replacing myself one of these weekends. An amp and kicker box from my prior car and I'm good with the look and sound of my factory unit. Are there things that cost more and sound better out there? Absolutley, but I'm happy with my set up and dollars spent on it.
On one of my other Mercedes I did have installed a new head unit with touch screen, back up camera, sterring wheel controls, bluetooth, ipod, etc. I did not have the skills to install all those items, It took all day for the shop to install and cost a TON of money, much more than $500 for everything. I like the new look and features of new units but I will not do that again.

Oh, I just read in one post that it took $500 worth of equipment, I thought that was outrageous.
I agree that it was a B!tc# to install all the necessary modules and adapters, but I have been doing car stereo a long time and I'm a computer guy, so I got it all done and i love it. I have everything the new cars have, except all the annoying bells and buzzers

I think it was one of the other posters that said they spent $500 on the ipod part but that wasnt me.
If I had the skills I would do installs myself but my car is to important to me to screw it up trying to do something I know is out of my league. Just my luck I would fry something and everything electric would stop working lol.

I wasn't here for a long time... If you want to see some pictures of the gateway, I use it with my Audio 30 APS an I will buy another one for my Comand 2.0 in the 203.
