Difficuly shifting from D to 4

Difficulty shifting from D to 4
'99 CLK320
A dime fell into the shifter assembly, preventing the shift lever from going N to D. After searching the forums I was able to completely remove the shifter assembly, clean out several dimes and bobby pins (gf's car) and reinstall the shifter assembly.
When I got it all back together though, it was very difficult shifting from D to 4. it was a very heavy & very resistant, but going back from 4 to D it clicks over with no problem at all.
I removed the shifter assembly & gave the shaft on the LH side a light spritz of WD40 & it unbound it, but after reinstalling it is still sticking and not smoothly going from D to 4.
Any suggestions?
