How can I turn off passenger airbags for child seat?

Hi Guys

I've read a few posts on the search but I cannot find a definative way to turn of the airbag on the passenger side for a child seat?

I callerd the stealership and they said that they only way is to buy a Mercedes Child seat which has an imbuilt transponder that will deactiveate the passenger airbags, but seriously who is going to want to buy another car seat when they have just bought one already? I asked if you can buy the transponder seperatley but they said no.?

Does anyone know if there is a fuse or wire or anyway to de-activate the passenger airbag?

Thanks

There probably isn't a way to deactivate it with just a fuse because I believe it kills the whole system. Probably about the only way to do it would be to go in a disconnect the pass airbag but that likely involves taking apart the dash. You have to know what you are doing because the system is dangerous to mess with if you don't know what you are doing. It stays energized for a period of time even after the battery is disconnected. Once this is done you will have an error come up every time you start the car.

I have an idea for you, because I will have to worry about te same thing in a few months when our first one is born. There is a wire under the seats on each side that is connected to the seat via a yellow two pin clip. What this wire does is to send the signal to the air bag module under the seat area under the carpet. When there is weight on the seat it will send a signal from the seat to the the module to the SRS system to activate that airbag. You can simply unplug that yellow connector from under your seat but keep in mind that you will get an SRS light and it will tell you passenger side airbag defective if you ever scan the car. Until you plug the wire and have someone with star system remove the SRS light and then your back to normal.
